Features
Dogs come in all shapes and sizes. From tiny Chihuahuas to giant Great Danes, their appearance varies widely. Unlike many wild animals, dogs have been bred by humans for thousands of years to have special traits like herding, guarding, or companionship. They have sharp teeth for eating meat but can also digest some plant-based foods. Their fur can be short, long, curly, or straight, and their colors range from black and white to spotted and striped.
Senses
Dogs have an extraordinary sense of smell— up to 100,000 times better than humans! This makes them excellent trackers and search-and- rescue animals. Their hearing is also much sharper than ours, able to detect sounds at much higher frequencies. While humans rely mostly on sight, dogs use a combination of smell, sound, and body language to understand the world.
Behavior
Dogs are social animals that often live in packs. They communicate using barking, growling, whining, and body language like tail wagging and ear positioning. Different breeds have different temperaments—some are energetic and playful, while others are calm and protective. Training and socialization are key to helping dogs live happily with people.
Health and Care
Dogs need regular exercise, a balanced diet, and routine veterinary care including vaccinations and parasite control. Grooming varies by breed—some need frequent brushing, others little at all. They also require mental stimulation like play and training to stay happy and healthy.
